Harvest Festival, Harvest Auction and the Elliott Fund

It is little known that Wisborough Green is fortunate to have a local charity, The Elliott Fund, set up in 1895 by a legacy from Harriet Elliott.  The trust exists to provide a modest source of funds from which temporary help can be given to those in the village who fall upon hard times for whatever reasons. There have been many instances when these funds have been of immense help, but, as would be expected, have remained anonymous.  The Trust is managed by the Trustees who are the Vicar and Churchwardens of the Parish.

It has become a tradition in the village that funds for this Charity have been raised by way of a HARVEST AUCTION held on the Sunday evening after the Harvest Festival Service. This year, as before, the auction is being hosted by Craig, the landlord of THE CRICKETERS at 7.30pm on Sunday 17 September.  In line with tradition, the first ‘Harvest Pint’ will be pulled by the Vicar, or his representative, and a Harvest Hymn will be sung before the auction gets under way.

  • Coming to the Harvest Festival Service in the Church on Sunday 17 September at 10.30am bringing as much produce as you can from your garden or food store* or any other items that will sell at the auction; and/or
  • Coming to the Harvest Auction at The Cricketers by 7.30pm with stuff to sell, a full wallet and being ready to enjoy yourselves.  All money raised will go to the Elliott Charity.

As well as fresh items, tinned goods, bottles, jam, flowers, plants, pickled onions etc are all appreciated.    In the past, even a television was sold!
