Ringing for Peace – Armistice 100

Apr 30, 2018 | Village News

In November 2017, an exciting new campaign was launched to recruit 1,400 new bell ringers to participate in the 2018 Armistice Day commemoration. 2018 will be the centenary of the end of World War I, in which more than 50 Sussex ringers lost their lives.  Church bells across the UK remained restricted throughout the course of the war and only rang freely once Armistice was declared on 11 November 1918.

We are very short of ringers here in Wisborough Green and hope to attract new learners: many people are looking for new challenges and new ways of getting fit – this could be the way!   The SCACR is already starting to plan how Sussex ringers can commemorate and celebrate this occasion. For more background information see the Sussex County Association of Change Ringers website (scacr.org).
