Village Hall News

As I wrote last month, we were delighted to receive the necessary consents to proceed with the modernisation of the hall.

The project team has now begun the task of creating the detailed specification that is needed to obtain meaningful tenders for the work. There is a lot of work to be done by just a handful of people. So it may take a while before there is much progress for me to report about this.

The village hall currently has its own funds of nearly £250,000 to use for the modernisation, but as I have advised earlier in these articles we still need to obtain substantial additional funds to help us to complete the project. At the time of writing, we have just arranged a preliminary meeting with representatives of the Big Lottery Fund to explore any opportunity to obtain grant funds from that source.

This first meeting with the Big Lottery Fund will not produce any firm promise of grants but it is an opportunity to establish our project in the minds of the grant makers and to discuss the criteria on which their grant making decisions are made so that we can better understand how best to present our case for funds when the time comes to make a formal application.

There will be much more work when we start to explore other sources of grant funding.  More next month.
