Farmers'
and Village Market News - July 2010
Next Market
Thursday 12 August 2010
9 am – 12.30 pm
On the Village Green
Last month had the second biggest footfall in the Market’s history. We must be doing something right to draw in so many in such lovely weather.
Julie the Jewellery certainly did. Lots of customers. She had a fantastic day.
The fruit and veg went well. The
cherries and strawberries sold out.
Milton, who runs it, is known only by his surname like Morse who hated his first
name. Could Milton’s first name be the same as Morse’s’? Everything
Milton sold was English except the apples and avocadoes. We have hopes for English
apples later on but not unfortunately for the avocadoes.
Did you know that the great John Milton of Paradise Lost fame is the fourth biggest contributor to words on the English language, as found in the Oxford English Dictionary?
The fish supplies were increased and the Early Birds had increased, so they had even more choice.
Next month we have new beef suppliers
from Shipley – John and Nick Barton Jayne. John’s mother said that
he had been born with wellie boots on. A farmer with a literary association,
well vaguely, with Hilaire Belloc who lived in Shipley.
Mary Lindfield, our stallholder co-ordinator, chatted to Mother and Father Burton
Jayne when setting up the new addition to our Market. Was this taking vetting
a bit too far?
Any way our beef suppliers can do beef boxes to order. Find out the details
and size up the beef.
This wonderful summer must just hold out or return on 12th August when we are on the Green. What’s the betting?
We will be having extra new stalls. Arrangements are in progress.
Jenny of Macmillan and her team will be cooking up local bacon and eggs to put in butties. Can’t you just smell it already? Come for breakfast or elevenses or even a very early lunch. Like last year, there will be seating in the middle of our circle of encamped stalls. All we need now is for a tepee or wigwam to add to the ambiance.
Children with adults in tow will be very welcome to munch brunch and run around whooping.
