Meeting Report

January 2008

The first meeting of the New Year took place on the 3rd January and our W.I. proved that they could read by bringing along a book, which had interested them, and giving a short description of what it was about. They ranged from the old (Lorna Doone) to the new (The Uncommon Reader), the thoughtful (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night) to the happy (The Secret Life of Bees) and many more. I decided to leave my usual ‘Ant and Bee’ at home this time!
It was nice to see so many members after the break and we were luck not to have the snowy weather that was predicted.

Our next meeting is on the 7th February when Richard Bairstow of The Wisborough Green History Group will be our speaker. If any member has any interesting historical details or photos of the village then I’m sure he’d like to see them.
Don’t forget our jumble sale on the 8th March at the Village Hall.

Sue 700827

February 2008

About 20 members and visitors now know a lot more history about Wisborough Green as Richard Bairstow from The History Group came and enlightened us about the Village Hall/Work House. He had some photos of how it looked before all the alterations that have taken place over the years and the members also came up with their memories of ‘old’ Wisborough Green. A knowledgeable evening was had by all. Many thanks Richard.
As the County Darts competition is not taking place due to lack of entries this year we are playing a friendly match with Horsham members in February. We don’t want our honed match standard to slip!
Now I know quite a few of you will be helping/attending/donating to our jumble sale on the 8th March, so just a few details. We will meet at the Hall to sort at 8.45, opening up to the public at 11.00. We hope to be finished by 1.00 p.m. so any help that any one can give will be gratefully accepted. If you need any jumble picked up please contact either me on 700827 or Jane on 700632.
Our next meeting is on the 6th March and is a talk by John Ireland from Bellman’s. Please note that we are meeting at 7.00 p.m. not the usual time of 8.00 p.m. Members are invited to bring small items for Ian to comment upon, any grand pianos should be left at home.

Sue 700827

March 2008

There was almost a full house for the meeting on the 6th March. It was lovely to see so many people plus some visitors. Many members brought small items of interest for John Ireland of Bellmans Auctioneers to cast his expert eye over them and give a brief description, age and value of many. John also gave an over view of the antique trade stating that with all the antique programmes on the television at the moment and E Bay and with general changes in taste then items come in and out of popularity.
Penny had tickets for the Group Meeting in April and we are also going to make up a group to see Calendar Girls at Chichester Festival Theatre in September. Anyone interested please contact me as soon as possible.
Four members went to The Rising Sun in Horsham to play darts against Horsham Holbrook. We won!
Our next meeting is on the 3rd April with a talk by Daniel Turner from the Born Free Foundation. See you there.
Thank you all for your help and donations at our Jumble Sale.

Sue 700827

April 2008

Another full house for our April meeting. Daniel Turner from the Born Free Foundation came and gave a very comprehensive talk about the Foundations aims and successes with the modern-day equivalent of slides (power point presentation). The Foundation is based in Horsham with about thirty employees with much of its work taking place in East Africa but also taking in Africa, Canada and Europe. Daniel’s particular work was with Zoos and the animals’ welfare.
Our next meeting on May 1st will be to discuss the resolutions that have been selected for this years’ AGM; namely “Ban on Bottom Trawling” and “Inappropriate Imprisonment of the Severely Mentally Ill”. In order to help us with these two weighty question wine and nibbles will, or course, be served.
We have booked 18 tickets for the Calendar Girls, at Chichester on the 8th September.
A walk in Lavington Woods is planned for the evening of the 9th May. We will meet in the woods at 6.30 keeping an eye out for the teddy bears of course!

Sue 700827

May 2008

At our meeting on May 1st we discussed the resolutions that have been selected for this years’ Liverpool AGM; namely “Ban on Bottom Trawling” and “Inappropriate Imprisonment of the Severely Mentally Ill”. Judy Moorey and Gill Parish, who had previously attended a workshop, to help with information about the two resolutions ably assisted members with these weighty propositions.
Our next meeting is outdoors. Paul Ullman is taking us around Midhurst. In previous years we have been around Arundel, Petworth and Chichester and have added to our knowledge of West Sussex on the hoof, so as to speak, so we’re going to give Midhurst a go this year. Meet in the Village Hall car park at 6.00 sharp to be in North Street car park at 6.30. Meet outside the Tourist Office please. It takes place whatever the weather!
My apologies to anyone who turned up for the walk at Lavington Common on the 9th May. This actually took place on Thursday 15th May and as I didn’t get any abusive telephone calls re this mess up on the dates I assume that no one turned up anyway; well I hope not!

Sue 700827

June 2008

Our June meeting started in North Street Carp Park, Midhurst where we were met by Paul Ullman, who has guided us through Saxons and Tudors previously, and he took us down the Causeway to Cowdray and guided us around the recently conserved ruins. We toured the Great Hall, Chapel, Kitchens, climbed many stairs to get a glorious view of the surrounding grounds. Cricket was being played below us, we could see the golf course in the distance and no one was playing polo. We also toured the cellars and picked out the musket holes in one of the walls of the ruins. It was a lovely evening and the weather, for once, was gorgeous.
Our next meeting in on July 3rd with Derrik Fulford giving a talk on “Smuggling – As it was, As it is”. So keep your contraband at home and see you at 8.00 in the Village Hall.

Sue 700827

July 2008

Nothing was smuggled into our July meeting on the 3rd as an ex-revenue man himself was giving us a talk. Mr. Derrik Fulford came and told us about smuggling in the past and as it is at present, always having to be one step in front of today’s smugglers. Sometimes it takes as long as six weeks to rummage in the hold of a huge cargo ship and as for ‘white van man/woman’ that’s another story.
Our August outing is to Nutbourne Vineyard on the 7th August. We are meeting in the Village Hall car park at 6.00 for a 6.30 start. The cost to members is £5 but that does include a guided tour of the vineyard and Llamas, a wine tasting and English cheeses and nibbles. If you haven’t put your name on the list please let me know as soon as possible if you want to come as we can only take 20 – 25 people.
I’m off through the green channel now, so see you on the 7th.

Sue 700827

August 2008

Twenty-one members and partners met at Nutbourne Vineyard, Pulborough on the 7th August. Unlike most of our outdoor meetings the weather was lovely and you could almost touch the Downs. Bridget, the owner, who introduced us to the different grape vines and explained the work throughout the year that needed to be done, took us on a guided tour around the vineyard. We walked through the Llamas and Alpacas and back to the windmill where we then had a wine tasting of the splendid produce of Nutbourne followed by English cheeses and nibbles. A very good time was had by all.

Our next meeting is on the 4th September with a talk by Claire Hicks on Iridology (something to do with the eyes!!). Not to be missed.

Sue 700827

September 2008

We had a full house for the talk by Claire Hicks on iridology. This is the coloured part of the eye that surrounds the pupil and by examining this closely with a sort of torch come magnifying glass quite a lot of information about people’s health can be gleaned. Claire showed us large pictures of eyes and then told us the various problems that their owners suffered from and their possible cures! If you find anyone for the WI looking closely into your eyes you now know why!

We have again entered the County Darts competition, which has got the opposition worried.

A group of us went to see The Calendar Girls at Chichester Theatre, which was brilliant.

Our next meeting on the 2nd October is a talk by Caroline Adams on Parham and The Pearsons.
See you all there.

Sue 700827

October 2008

October 2nd found the W.I. learning a bit of local history. Caroline Adams from the Chichester Records Office came and talked about Parham and the Pearsons, which is the latest part of Parham’s very long history. Did you know that Parham was one of the first houses to open it’s doors to the public, (me and you), back in 1958 because of the need to revamp the place after the effects of having the Army and evacuees in residence during the war. It would have cost you the princely sum of 2/6 for adults and the cars had to be parked in a nice straight line! It was a very enjoyable evening brought to life by slides and I didn’t see a single eye close!
I expect to see another full house on the 6th November as we’re having a wine tasting so you might like to arrange for ‘drivers’! Oh, and by the way, it’s also the Annual Meeting and our 17th birthday so come prepared.
See you there.

Sue Nicholls 700827

November 2008

A stalwart group of about eighteen members came to the Annual Meeting on the 6th November.

Melanie Careless, from County, came as our ‘Advisor’; we were duly advised and the present committee of Jane (Zilz), Mary (Benson), Penny (Gaze), Gaye (Harris), Judy (Moorey), Sue (Nicholls), Gill (Parish) and Jenny (Pittuck) were all re-elected with the addition of Mary (Reeves) and Helen (Vause). Sue was re-elected as President for the coming year, (serves you all right!).
After the ‘official’ business we then progressed to having a light-hearted wine tasting which was great fun. We all got all the wines wrong as to type and country of origin but a good time was had by all those who weren’t driving!!

Our next meeting is on the 4th December with a Christmas Party. Could all members who are coming please bring a plate of something nice for about 6 people and a wrapped present costing no more than £2.50).

Happy Christmas to you all.

Sue Nicholls 700827

December 2008

The village hall was the venue of our 2008 Christmas party and about two dozen very smart girls played games, made decorations and ate a wonderful selection of party food on the 4th December, all the better after a glass of mulled wine. Thank you to all who supplied food and entertainment.
Some members went to Horsham Parish Church to take part in the annual carol concert of the County WI. The church was full and it was a lovely start to the Advent season.
Our first meeting in 2009 will be on the second Thursday in January, not the first. So on the 8th January we are running our ‘Good Read’ meeting with a twist. If, like me, you haven’t got any sort of book worth tell others about then bring a piece of music, preferably in CD form, which you would like to share with us all. Something slightly shorter than the Wagner’s Ring Cycle lasting about 3 minutes would be lovely.
I wish you all a very happy, health and peaceful New Year.

Sue (Nicholls)

January 2009

For the first meeting of 2009 about two dozen members and guests met to share their favourite book or music with everyone else. It was a real joy to learn about other people’s tastes in music and reading. We ranged from Karl Jenkins (And the Mother did weep) to Lonnie Donegan (Does your chewing gum lose it’s flavour?) and David Kossoff (The Book for Witnesses) to Khaled Hosseini (A Thousand Splendid Suns). We had great difficulty ending the evening by 10.00, as it was so interesting listening to other peoples choices.
You will need to bring something to sit down on for the next meeting, as we are Meditating, a towel perhaps. I’m sure those who are not too keen in sitting on the floor will be O.K. on the hall’s brand new chairs.
Start collecting for the annual Jumble Sale on the 7th March.
I look forward to seeing you all on the 5th February.

Sue (Nicholls)

February 2009

Picture the scene; a village hall somewhere in Wisborough Green, dark outside as it was gone 8.00 p.m but nicely warm in atmosphere. About 24 women either sitting on chairs or in a sort of lotus position on the floor humming, yes humming loudly and as long as you had breath. This was the culmination of our meeting on the 5th February. Pamela Hebden came to give us a taste of yoga and meditation which was very welcome and a super way of relaxing for most of us (not too sure about the gigglers!!)
We played a darts match against Horsham Holbrook and came equal first!!
Our next meeting is Stained Glass Craftwork on the 5th March to which I look forward to seeing you all there.
Don’t forget our jumble sale on the 7th March at the Village Hall. We will start sorting at 8.30 and will open to start selling at 10.30, so all hands to the pump please, sorting, selling and, your very favourite, clearing away.

Sue (Nicholls)

March 2009

Our meeting on the 5th was a demonstration of stained glass craftwork by Jane Fowler. She showed us her skills in the cutting of glass and making 3-d items with the most lovely coloured glass. She edges them with copper foil and then solders them together and finishing up with making the solder black. She brought many items for us to see and purchase. Yet another skill to add to our ever-growing knowledge.

Our village re-cycling event (jumble sale), held on the 7th March was again successful. We made about £200. Although there didn’t seem as many customers as usual we obviously had some good quality items and so made a healthy profit. There was a wonderful posse of helpers and we all had a fun time and were packed up and ready to go home by 12.30. We get slicker and slicker!! Many thanks to all who participated.

Our next meeting is on the 2nd April when Clifford Jones will be coming to give us some of the history of Christ’s Hospital School. All members and friends are very welcome. See you there.

Sue (Nicholls)
700827

April 2009

At our April Meeting of the W.I. we had an ‘Old Blue’ to talk to us. No it wasn’t a risky joke from an old copy of Playboy or a geriatric lady from Raymond’s Revue Bar. It was infact Clifford Jones, an old boy from Christs Hospital School, Horsham. He showed some old slides and postcards from long ago. The School moved from London to the present site in 1902 with the girls joining them in 1985. There are still parts of the original school that was designed by Sir Christopher Wren incorporated in the building.

Our next meeting on the 7th May is the Resolutions Meeting when we will be getting in touch with our Apiarist side! The one resolution is ‘SOS For the Honey Bees’, a subject of great interest and not just for our morning toast.

Many thanks to all who helped at the Jumble Sale in March. We made just over £200 thanks to you all.
See you in May, (there will be wine & nibbles to help us along our way!)

Sue (Nicholls)
700827

May 2009

We had a very social evening on the 7th May. There was no speaker as this meeting was to discuss the resolution for the Annual Meeting at the Albert Hall on the 3rd June. The resolution was all about Honey Bees and the need for an increase in funding for the support for the industry from the Government. Judy Moorey had done a lot of research about this subject and ably outlined the problems of our native bees. The meeting agreed with the resolution unanimously and our delegate from Loxwood has been instructed accordingly.
Following this part of the meeting we then had a wine and orange juice tasting. Mary Reeves brought a selection of white and red wines and Sue Nicholls brought some different orange juices. The meeting became even more social!!
Our next meeting will be an outing to Fittleworth House garden. For those members who didn’t manage to make the May meeting, those that need a lift or can offer transport should meeting in the village hall car park at 6.00. We are due at Fittleworth at 6.30 where Mark, the head gardener, will show us around. We will then adjourn to The Swan. Please contact me if you need any more details.

Sue (Nicholls)

June 2009

About 30 members, husbands and children met at Fittleworth House on the 4th June to be taken around the garden by Mark Saunders, Head Gardener. We saw the marvellous greenhouse and vegetable pots and the new areas of the gardens. It was a lovely evening if a bit cold at the end. Some of us needed to get warm in the Swan Inn at Fittleworth, which did the trick.
Our next meeting is back at Wisborough, on the 2nd July, when Al Cunningham from the Canadian Veterans will come to give us a talk on the Dieppe raid etc.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Sue Nicholls

July 2009

At our July meeting we all met the ‘last Canadian’. Mr. Al Cunningham came to talk about his experiences of being eventually stationed at Ewhurst after landing at Liverpool from Canada. He is the President of the Canadian War Veterans and always attends the Church Service in August to remember the Dieppe raid. He told us of his experiences during the war and how his unit, the Engineers, built Dunsfold Air Field in 4 ½ months and Caen by-pass.
The W.I. is catering for the Dieppe Canadian War Veterans as usual and we would appreciate offers of help for the 23rd August. Please let me know if you can help.
Our next un-official meeting is a BBQ at Jane Zilz’s house on the 6th August from 7.00 onwards. Please let me know if you are coming. The committee will provide salads and burgers etc and members are asked to bring puddings please.
We are entering the County Quiz on the 11th August at Fittleworth with two teams.
Our September meeting on the 3rd in the Village Hall is about making English Cheese by Rosemary Hebden.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

August 2009

You know the old sayings, Horse & Carriage, Chalk & Cheese, Apples & Pears, Jack & Jill, well I have another one, WI.BBQ. & Rain.
Our BBQ on the 6th August was a huge success thanks to all our lovely members pulling together, supplying lots of lovely puds and Jane doing all the cooking and singeing various parts of her anatomy. The rain never stopped and several members were on roof duty to make sure the whole marquee didn’t collapse on top of everyone and a good time was had by all. Unfortunately I was unable to attend due to the birth in the morning of my grandson, who I wanted to visit.
Many thanks to Jane for hosting the whole evening.
One of our teams at the Quiz on the 11th August came 3rd, and first in the on-going quiz. We also manned the refreshments. Thanks to all who took part.

Our September meeting on the 3rd in the Village Hall is about making English Cheese by Rosemary Hebden.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

Sue Nicholls

September 2009

On the 3rd September we all gathered in the Hall to learn all about making English Farmhouse cheeses, so if you’ve now been to a dinner party locally and the cheese & port were slightly different then one of us might have had a go at making some, although it does take at least three months to even start maturing, so that might be why it was slightly different! Rosemary Horton was very knowledgeable about her subject and she brought a couple of cheeses for us to taste.
I am pleased to tell you that Judy Moorey, Helen Vause, Gillian Gough and Val Mourilyan gained their Food Hygiene Certificates – what a relief, now we know who can safely be put in charge of our refreshments every month!!!
Our next meeting on the 1st October is a talk by Larry Culver from the Sussex Air Ambulance (just in case the refreshments were not made by one of the above four!).
Look forward to seeing you then.

Sue Nicholls

October 2009

On the 1st October we all met at the Village Hall and learnt about the work of the Sussex Air Ambulance, which is based at Dunsfold. Larry Culver came and gave us a talk with slides to illustrate the service that this Helicopter Emergency Medical Service provides in Sussex. It responds to serious trauma wherever needed around the County and is equipped with a paramedic and doctor on board which means that operations can be carried out whenever needed. The NHS funds the paramedic but everything else is paid for almost entirely by voluntary donations. It costs approximately £3 million a year to run. Larry was very knowledgeable and his previous experience as a Sussex Police Driver comes in handy.

We have again entered the darts competition, so watch out husbands, we might even practice one day.

Our next meeting is the one you’ve all been waiting for, the Annual Meeting. All you budding committee members will have a super opportunity to add you tuppennyworth and volunteer! Wine and nibbles will of course be served, with double wine to all committee volunteers, so see you all on the 5th November, sparkler in hand!

Sue Nicholls

November 2009

A small, but beautifully proportioned group of girls came to our Annual Meeting and our 18th birthday on the 5th November. Melanie Careless, the W.I. Advisor came to make sure that we stuck to some of the WI rules when electing a new committee and President. The committee said goodbye to Helen Vause and Gillian Parish, who are taking a short break, and hello to Jan Nast who was encouraged to volunteer!! Thank you all of you. The committee is now Jane Zilz, Penny Gaze, Gaye Harris, Mary Benson, Jenny Pittuck, Judy Moorey Jan Nast, Mary Reeves and I. Wine and nibbles were served ad lib. Thank you to all who came.
Our Christmas meeting will be really exciting. We are going to take part in a drama entitled Cocktails and Killers so to this end it would be nice if everyone could wear something from the 1920’s. I know it’s before everyone’s time but I’m just going to the back of my wardrobe and get something out that my daughter would be embarrassed to see me in! If everyone could bring a plate of something delicious to eat and a wrapped pressie to the value of £2.50 that will be great. So I look forward to seeing you ALL on the 3rd December in your gear and ready to party.
Oh I nearly forgot, you’ve got me for another year as President – I told you that you should have come!!

Sue Nicholls

December 2009

For our Christmas party this year we rang the changes with a Murder Mystery evening. Cocktails and Killings was set in the 1920’s and we had a group called the Castaways who performed and included us all in this unusual play. We all dressed up in 1920’s gear and everyone look splendid. We had a go at murdering the Charleston and had a super spread of nibbles, food and mulled wine all supplied by members. A very good time was had by all.
The next day seven members went to Chichester Cathedral for the W.I.’s 90th Anniversary Carol Service, which was very well attended.
Our January meeting will be on the 7th where we will be getting into the keep fit mode after all the Christmas over-indulging with a ‘Strictly Dancing’ evening with Lisa. I hope you all can make it.
I wish you all a very happy, health and peaceful New Year.

Sue Nicholls

January 2010

As I write this report we are still surrounded by snow and it’s very cold. We managed to get our vehicles out today which is the first time since Tuesday. Unfortunately, due to the weather and lack of power in Wisborough Green for several days we had to cancel the January meeting so we’re still waiting to learn how to ‘strictly tango’. Perhaps we can have Lisa on another date.
Still, lets think positively. Our February 4th meeting will be a talk by Annie Cockram entitled The Best Kept Secret, about the F.A.N.Y.’s (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry), a voluntary organisation formed to assist the military or civil authorities during emergencies. I do hope to see as many members a possible as I know this is going to be a very interesting evening and we haven’t met up since last year!!!

Please start collecting you excess clothes etc for our Annual Jumble Sale on Saturday 6th March at the Village Hall. I shall be calling on all our friends to help man this as usual so no excuses please!!
I look forward to seeing you all on the 4th.

Sue Nicholls
01403 700827

February 2010

We had more success with our February meeting on the 4th than we had in January, the snow stayed away and Wisborough had power.
We were very privileged to have the Commandant, Annie Cockram of the FANY (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps), assisted by Captain Alex Milne who gave us a very comprehensive history of the Corps and how they work in today’s world. Apart from all their support work with the Military and civilian organisations they have a great sense of fun and adventure. Their organisation is very similar to the W.I. in that they are an all female group and are very involved in the community when needed. The only difference that I can see is that the FANY’s have been around since 1907 and you are unable to join after the age of 45 (missing a trick there I feel!!). Many thanks Annie and Alex.
Our next meeting will be on the 4th March when we are continuing our theme of female achievement. We are very lucky to have an Olympic Canoeist, Helen Darby Dowman, come to tell us how/why/when she took part in the Athens Olympics. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Last but certainly not least we have our annual jumble sale on Saturday 6th March. Any jumble can be left outside the village hall from 8.30 onwards, we open to the public at 10.30 and are home for lunch by 1.00, well that the theory anyway!

Please give me a ring if you need anything collected, 700827.

Sue Nichols

March 2010

We had another ‘first’ for our meeting on the 4th March. Helen Darby Dowman nee Reeves came and enthusiastically told us how she started canoeing at a very early age with her brother and how she progressed to the World Junior Championships in 1996 where she won gold, on to the World Team event in 2002 with a bronze. She clinched her place in the 2004 Athens Olympics with her victory in the World Cup event in 2004.
Helen then showed us her precious bronze medal, which she won, in the K1 Kayak single slalom final. Throughout her career she has had at least three major shoulder operations and another one after the Olympics and she still helping to train the next generation of Kayakers. Not only did she come back from Athens with a bronze medal but she also came back with her future husband; now that’s certainly worth a gold medal!!
Thank you to all who came and helped/bought/took away/cleared-up at our annual Jumble on the 6th. We are certainly blessed with many lovely people who turned out to help us raise money for our Institute. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Our next meeting is on the 1st April with ‘An Introduction to Herbal Medicine’ given by Sarah Beard. I’m now off to gather some dandelions and witch hazel and I’ll see you all there.

Sue Nicholls
01403 700827

April 2010

Our April meeting gave us an Introduction to Herbal Medicine by Sarah Beard who had made some lavender shortbread and liquorice sweets, which we all had a sample of. We learnt some of the simple remedies that can be made from ordinary herbs from the garden but Sarah usually get her supplies from specialist growers. She works at her local G.P. Practice as a Complimentary Herbalist and has done a four year degree course in herbal medicine. We all left the meeting feeling much better!!
Our next meeting on the 6th May will be held at the sports pavilion due to some little election going on at the Village Hall. This is the annual resolution meeting where we learn a bit about the resolutions due to be discussed at the W.I. Annual Meeting in Cardiff in June. The resolution this year is ‘This meeting urges HM Government to introduce clear and mandatory country of origin labelling on all meat, poultry and fish products sold in this country’.
So I hope to see you all on the 6th May at 8.00 at the Pavilion to discuss this resolution. Now I’m off to find some Rosemary as it’s meant to get the brain going, and I’m going to need quite a lot!!

Sue Nicholls
01403 700827

May 2010

May 6th saw the WI in a new venue. We all met in the Sports Pavilion because of some little General Election and the danger that the WI would alter the whole course of the result if we met in the Village Hall. Well we had a lovely time looking over the Green while we discussed the resolution to be put forward at our Annual Meeting in Cardiff in June. After much discussion we voted for the resolution, namely that’ This meeting urges HM Government to introduce clear and mandatory country of origin labelling on all meat, poultry and fish products sold in this country’. So Mary Reeves will go to Cardiff to vote on our and three other W.I.’s behalf. Good luck Mary and many thanks to the Sports Association for their kind hospitality.
Our next meeting on June 3rd will be a walk. We will all meet at Kirdford Cricket Ground (get your Sat Nav’s programmed) at 6.30. We will go on a walk around part of Kirdford (stiles are involved) and finish at The Foresters (no need of Sat Nav’s for that). All members, partners, children, dogs and well-behaved husbands are very welcome. It will go on whatever the weather!
Look forward to seeing you on the 3rd.

Sue Nicholls

June 2010

About 23 of us met up on the 3rd June outside Kirdford Cricket pitch for the annual WI walk, which included husbands, children friends and dogs. It wasn’t like our usual walk; it was fine and sunny. Now anyone who has been on previous WI walks know that you must come prepared with wellies, hats, waterproofs, umbrellas and lifejackets. This year took us all by surprise, a nice one, but certainly a surprise, in fact there were quite a few people in shorts (don’t mention the stinging nettles!). We walked around the boundary of Kirdford and returned via the football pitch ending up at The Foresters (what a surprise!). A good time was had by all.
We’re back to normal on the 1st July, at the Village Hall where we’ve got a talk by Sara Berry about ‘Behind the Scenes at the National Gallery’.
I look forward to seeing you all then.
