Like many other groups, the Parishes Wildlife Group had to postpone activities in 2020.  Thus we have been unable to embark on our project to draw up a Parish map showing important areas for wildlife which was due to be led by Bruce Middleton, former ranger at the South Downs National Park, which we were planning to do in May.   As Bruce is planning to emigrate to Cornwall with his family we will need to find an alternative source of assistance.  We did not hear a talk on bats by great enthusiast Nik Knight from the Hampshire Bat Group about these amazing creatures for which our Parish contains a great diversity BUT, Dr Alison Barker was able to complete her dragonfly and damselfly survey on the upper part of the River Kird.

Thanks to the continued support from the landowners, once the lockdown became a little less stringent, Alison made some additional visits to sites along the river to complete her work. Just before lockdown, Alison outlined her results in February.  Copies of the report, once finished, will be sent to the relevant landowners, organisations, sponsors and volunteers.  If you are not included in that list but would like to see the results do send me an email or phone me.

The dragonfly survey undertaken during 2019-2020 was funded with thanks by the Chichester District Council Grants and Concessions Fund and a SDNP Sustainability grant.  The previous survey was funded by the SDNP Sustainability grant, the Wisborough Green Fete Committee and KKWG.  Funding enabled the PWG to appoint consultant Dr Alison Barker to carry out the survey work.

All best wishes – I trust you and your families are keeping well and safe.  AND, thank you to all those in and around the village who have helped the village and its residents – making visors and PPE, fetching, carrying, delivering, phoning, transporting, visiting at a distance and so many more things.  It is evident that, at the local level, many people stepped up to the plate and enabled people to manage OK in spite of the constraints as well as all those working in Care Homes and for the NHS.
