As always, we have had a busy start to the summer term at Wisborough Green Primary School! Year 2 began their Standardised Assessment TestsSchool Logo (SATs) and Years 3 and 4 had a visit from a local artist, creating beautiful tissue paper lanterns for the Petworth Festival.

Year 5 took part in an action-packed overnight residential trip to Lodge Hill Outdoor Centre, where they completed a gladiator challenge and tried abseiling, orienteering, tunnelling and zip-wires.

This term also saw Year 6 complete their SATs after a two-year hiatus. Despite some nerves and trepidation at the start, children rose to the challenge as always and all did their very best. It was great to see them supporting and encouraging each other during this time.  Mornings were filled with some nervous chatter, a few words of wisdom and a generous sprinkling of sugar – courtesy of SATs breakfast club – before settling down to the assessments. You could almost hear the children’s brains ticking as they put all their hard work to the test in the grammar, spelling, reading and maths papers.

It has been truly amazing to watch the children demonstrate their utmost perseverance and resilience during what could have been a stressful and emotional time for them. Children’s feedback included:

“Before I was nervous, but now I don’t know why I was! In the end, we all did so well!”

“Practising beforehand really helped – this wasn’t so different. It was fine.”

And even, “I actually enjoyed it!”

We could not be prouder of what they have all achieved over the last few years. We know that the children have grown in confidence throughout their time with us and they will leave primary school with a positive mindset and a continued love of learning.

Miss Jeal, our Year 6 teacher, is now planning some exciting events to take our wonderful Year 6 through to the end of term. These include a trip to The Globe theatre, where they will take part in a workshop linked to their Macbeth project, a day at Thorpe Park, the Year 5 and 6 end-of-year production of ‘Star Warts’ and a week’s residential at PGL, Isle of Wight. It is set to be a thrilling few weeks! We hope that they enjoy every minute and make everlasting memories for us all to share.
