Village Hall AGM

The annual general meeting of the hall’s Trustees and the management committee was held on 12th February.

Attendees heard that over the last 12 months bookings grew with 13 clubs, societies and organisations using the hall regularly and five wellbeing and fitness groups.  Additionally, there were a couple of local business events and 23 family celebrations of one kind or another.

Finances are sound but delicately balanced.  By changing providers, utilities bills have been reduced but some maintenance, repairs and compliance matters incurred unforeseen expenditure.

The Monthly Draw Club continues to make a useful contribution to funds but membership has fallen. Crucially, more volunteers are needed to help with day-to-day work, particularly in relation to basic premises management such as small repair, painting and unskilled maintenance jobs. Joining the committee is not a requirement, although more members would be very welcome.

The accounts have been signed off and will be uploaded to the Charity Commission’s website.

Before closing the meeting, the chairman made a sobering statement: “The hall remains an important community hub which many locals enjoy through the variety of activities that are available there.  But it is important to sound a word of warning that, if more volunteers do not come forward soon to help run the hall, the day will come when the hall will have to close for lack of people to run it.  This community should never allow such a situation to arise.”
