Dieppe Commemoration Service
Every year the Dieppe Raid is remembered in a August Church Service in Wisborough Green as many Canadian troops were stationed at Hawkhurst Court during the war. Due to the age of veterans, there is no longer a parade or presentation of wreaths.
The Last Commemoration in 2017
On Sunday 6 August, St. Peter’s welcomed the Canadian Veterans’ Association of the UK with friends and supporters from far and wide. This was the 75th Anniversary of the raid that took place in Dieppe in 1942. We were joined by representatives from the Canadian Embassy and a number of Officers representing the British Armed Forces and the Royal British Legion. Billingshurst Section was also in attendance and a number of uniformed youth organisations. Wreaths were laid by many of the representatives, including Wisborough Green Parish Council and St Peter’s, remembering the debt we owe to all those who gave their lives in the service of freedom.
