Learning beyond the classroom
This term, our pupils are stepping out into the wider world, carrying their curiosity with them. Each trip is more than just a day away — it is a chance to bring learning to life.
Years Three and Four visited Butser Ancient Farm as part of their ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’ topic. The children were able to study artefacts, visit the different houses and explore what life was like by trying out skills such as fire lighting and jewellery making. They asked thoughtful questions that showed how they were extending their learning, as well as how deeply they were connecting past and present.
‘I really enjoyed it because I got to be an archaeologist!’ Thea
‘We were learning about the differences between Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age houses and we could actually see it! It helps us describe them in our writing.’ Jack
‘Seeing it in reality really helps you understand how different it was!’ Obie
‘It helped me understand because it felt like we were actually in the Stone Age’. Noah
‘We were living like they were living!’ Sienna
Years Five and Six visited The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum to support their studies of the Anglo-Saxons. They were very excited about
this first-hand experience which enabled them to explore how the Anglo-Saxons lived.
‘It helps us connect with how they lived and what they did in those times.’ Ella
‘It’s fun to go out on visits and it helps you learn more deeply about your topic’. James
Our younger pupils in Reception, Year One and Year Two will most definitely be wide eyed with wonder at their visit from the Wonderdome Mobile Planetarium to bring their ‘Space Travel’ topic to life.
These experiences are not just trips and visits — they are stories our pupils will carry with them, shaping their confidence, sparking their creativity, and reminding them that the world is their classroom.
A huge thank you to our hard working and dedicated PTA team – their fundraising through community events such as the Summer Fair and our recent Bonfire Night support us in making these curriculum enriching experiences possible for all our pupils.
Kind regards,
