It has been a while since my last entry, but we continue to look forward to the final months of the year. You may have noticed a slight addition to our sign over the Chapel gateway. It now reads, “Zoar Chapel 1753 Christian Fellowship”. The Trustees wanted to make it clear that the meetings held at the chapel on alternative Sunday afternoons are rooted in the normal Christian tradition. Our time is spent in praising and worshipping the Lord, sharing Biblical scriptures and reflections and praying. Our aim is to support the Christian work in our villages and to be available to those wishing to learn more about our faith.
Art Exhibition: t is also a joy to use the chapel for community events. On 25th – 30th October, over half term, we will be hosting an art exhibition between 11am and 3pm each day where refreshments will be available. The principal artist is Tony Sargeant from Felpham. Although mainly known for his stunning aircraft paintings, he is also a renowned landscape and seascape artist. See poster opposite for details. Right is a painting of Slindon Woods.
There will be canvasses of varying sizes and styles to both enjoy and purchase. As well as paintings by Tony, there will be artwork by a talented young local artist, Bea Mulder, and illustrations by Emma Hurson. There will definitely be something for everyone, and it is a great privilege to be involved in this extraordinary event.
Pre-Loved Clothes Sale: As well as this exhibition, the Chapel will be hosting another Pre-Loved Clothes Sale on 14th and 15th October WE NEED CLOTHES!
In order to make this another successful event, we are asking for any donations to be made as soon as possible! Call me on 700803 or 07568718409 if you need anything collected. Once again, the doors will be open at 10am until 4pm and there will be refreshments aplenty while you select your autumn/winter wardrobe. It is a great place to come and meet friends and chat. All proceeds will go towards our restoration fund.
Advance notice…. In early November we are hosting a folk music event, run by the phenomenal folk fiddler, Jon Wigg who lives in West Sussex. He is kindly coming to lead this event with friends, and it could be the beginning of regular monthly folk evenings in the Chapel, so dust off your old guitar, concertina, fiddle or whatever and start practising! Watch this space for more information next month, or call me on either of the numbers above.
