On 15th December 2023, we had the privilege of hosting the funeral and burial of Kathleen Nancy Kernutt, born 26th February 1930 – died 6th November 2023. Nan, as she was known, nee Mann, was buried with her husband Stan, who passed away nearly 50 years ago.
But this is not a morbid story. Nan grew up in the Chapel House, as her parents were the caretakers and pastors of the Chapel for many years. A number of family members were established preachers and trustees. Many, on both sides of her family, are buried in the graveyard. Her son John has happy recollections of the chapel and house from his youth.
What a joy it was to be able to facilitate this occasion. A year ago, it would not have been possible. Now, with the refurbishment, the Chapel was able to embrace the many family members and friends who spoke of the delight of seeing Nan’s dream of being buried here come to fruition, despite not having lived in the village for many years. There was a wonderful sense of completeness.
As the present caretaker/pastor of the chapel, I have been humbled and blessed to be part of this occasion. To see the Chapel full of people with happy memories of a vibrant hall, encouraged by the new beginnings, was a joy. Now, it is being used in many ways, and the Lord is still to be found here.
Future dates for 4pm Sunday meetings, each fortnight, are: 11th, 25th February; 10th, 24th March; 7th, 21st April; 5th, 19th May; 2nd 16th, 30th June.
Join us for an informal time of praise and worship…with refreshments afterwards. All welcome.
